My house has a block and beam floor..... - Jan 21, 2005
will this need to be taken into account when planning the conservatory?

Will a conservatory add value to my home? - Nov 26, 2004
House prices fell by 1.1 per cent last month, their worst performance in four years, according to Halifax, Britain's biggest mortgage lender. As many people look at re-mortgaging to raise money to improve their property, it's crucial not to throw that money away with badly thought through home improvements that add little or no value.

The best way to increase property value is to add space with projects such as loft conversions, conservatories, cellars and extensions. Design plays an important role here...  correctly designed conservatories that blend with the house and garden certainly add more value.

How deep are the footings? - Oct 1, 2004
Just because conservatories are exempt(currently) from building regulations, it doesn't mean that they should not be adhered to. If you speak with the Building Control Office at your council, they will advise a minimum of one metre deep from ground level. In certain circumstances, where there are established trees or unusual ground conditions the requirement is to go deeper. Our surveyor will advise of any such circumstances prior to commencement of the works. Be aware, that the vast majority of conservatories do not have the 'robust footing details' that we use at Admiral.
